Zero CutTax Disability Society

Free help for Canadians with disabilities

Every dollar of your Disability Tax Credit belongs to you.

Private firms routinely take 25% to 30% of a person’s Disability Tax Credit refund as a fee. On a ten-year backdated claim, that can be thousands of dollars taken from someone who needs it most. We help you claim it for free, and we take nothing — ever.

The problem

The cut comes out of a refund you already earned

The Disability Tax Credit can be claimed for the current year and reassessed up to ten years back. That makes first-time approvals valuable — and it is exactly why a fee industry grew up around them.

With a fee-charging firm

Illustrative: a $20,000 retroactive refund, at a 25–30% contingency fee.

With Zero Cut

The same claim, the same refund, no contingency fee of any kind.

Reaches you Our fee: $0
Parliament tried to cap these fees. The cap is not in effect.

The Disability Tax Credit Promoters Restrictions Act and its regulations — which set a maximum fee of $100 per request — came into force on 15 November 2021, but have been suspended from operation pending the outcome of litigation. The CRA states that enforcement of the maximum fee “will come into effect once the Regulations become operable.” Until then, there is no enforced limit on what a firm may charge you. Read what this means for you.

How we help

Three steps, no fee, no contract

Talk it through

Tell us your situation. We help you work out whether the Disability Tax Credit is likely to apply to you or someone you care for, in plain language, before you spend a dollar or sign anything.

Prepare the application

We walk you through the CRA’s application — Part A is yours, Part B is your medical practitioner’s — and help you describe your impairment accurately and completely, which is where most applications fail.

Follow it to the end

We help you request the retroactive years you are owed, understand the CRA’s decision, and ask for a review if you are turned down. If money comes back, all of it is yours.

What is at stake

What approval can be worth

The credit itself, the years you can reach backward, and the federal benefits that approval unlocks.

$10,138

The 2025 federal disability amount, plus $5,914 more for a person under 18. It is a non-refundable credit, so it reduces the income tax you owe.

10 years

How far back the CRA can reassess earlier returns once you are approved — which is what turns an approval into a lump-sum refund.

$2,400 / year

The maximum Canada Disability Benefit, $200 a month for eligible low-income adults aged 18 to 64. DTC approval is required to get it.

Where most people need to begin

Everything below is free to read, and free to ask us about.

Do I qualify?

The three routes to eligibility, the two thresholds the CRA actually applies — 90% of the time, and three times longer — and all ten categories in plain language.

How do I apply?

What the credit is worth, the digital and paper routes, the reference number that trips people up, and who can certify your impairment.

I was refused — now what?

A refusal is usually about description, not eligibility. Two free routes: a review within one year, or a formal objection within 90 days.

Our promise

What “zero cut” actually commits us to

We will never

  • Take a percentage of your refund
  • Charge a fee, up front or on success
  • Ask you to sign a contingency agreement
  • Sell, share, or trade your personal or health information

We will always

  • Tell you when you can simply do it yourself — applying to the CRA is free
  • Be clear about what we do not know, and point you to the official source
  • Be funded by grants and donations, never by commissions from the people we serve
  • Keep this help free regardless of what your refund turns out to be

We are getting off the ground

This society is new, incorporated in British Columbia, and run lean. Our fundraiser covers the domain and two years of hosting — the foundation we need to apply for federal grant funding.
