About us
Built by someone who has been through it.
Zero Cut Tax Disability Society is a non-profit society incorporated in British Columbia, based in Coquitlam, with one purpose: making sure people with disabilities receive the full value of the benefits they are entitled to.
Our founder
Michael Sincock
Michael became disabled following a motorbike accident. Working through the disability benefits system from the inside taught him two things: the paperwork is harder than it needs to be, and there is an industry waiting on the other side of it that charges people a quarter to a third of their money for help filling it out.
He founded Zero Cut Tax Disability Society to remove that cut entirely. The society runs deliberately lean — using modern AI tools to handle the technical and administrative load that would otherwise require paid staff — so that nearly everything raised goes into helping people rather than into overhead.
Why we exist
The Disability Tax Credit is worth real money, and because it can be applied retroactively for up to ten years, a first approval often produces a lump-sum refund. That lump sum is what fee-charging firms are pricing against. A 25–30% contingency fee on a $20,000 refund is $5,000 to $6,000 — taken from a person the credit exists to support.
Parliament recognised the problem. The Disability Tax Credit Promoters Restrictions Act and its regulations, capping the fee at $100 per request, came into force on 15 November 2021 — and were then suspended pending litigation. They remain suspended. In practical terms, the protection Parliament passed is not currently protecting anyone. More on that here.
So the gap gets filled by a non-profit instead. That is us.
We intend to be funded through sustainable government grants and voluntary donations — never through commissions taken from the people we help. If we ever cannot fund the work that way, we will say so publicly rather than start charging the vulnerable.
What we are, and what we are not
- We are a non-profit society incorporated in British Columbia.
- We are independent — not affiliated with the Canada Revenue Agency or any government body.
- We are not a registered charity, so we cannot issue tax receipts for donations.
- We are not tax lawyers, accountants, or medical practitioners, and we do not replace them.
- We are not able to guarantee that any application will be approved. Only the CRA decides eligibility.
Where we are going
Our immediate goal is a stable public home for this work — a domain and two years of hosting, funded by our current fundraiser. With that in place we can apply for federal grant funding and scale the service so that free, honest help reaching every Canadian who needs it is not limited by one person’s time.
